Life in Alaska has been so busy lately I feel like I've missed out on so much. It's nice to be able to take a few minutes, before the day gets going, and see that you are all still doing well.

The dog killed most of my layers so my coop is full of freeloaders, I mean boys

I have one teenage girl who and one broody silkie and 7 boys

I know there have to be a few girls in the Icelandic flock

AND I had ordered some chicks for my kids before I discovered Icelandics, of which I know 6 are pullets, but I think I may have to do one more big hatch in the interest of getting more egg layers. Might be time to start calling the local enablers to see what my options are.

Hey Michelle, you need a couple dozen more eggs to incubate, thats plain to see, plus a firm SSS in place.

Even if it is a known dog. Look at the damage it did to you, keep the gun handy.

I have the gun, and a havahart, and a barrel full of water, skunks etc get a polite ride, but this close to state and natl forest they are a given. I had a mother and her kits once feeding with my barn cats and they never bothered my chickens, I missed them when she moved them to I dont know where, cute little guys. Coons otoh slaughtered a bunch of hens one night. I am sure they are the reason why God gave us .22 mags.
