Icelandic Chickens

Well, I had to candle some turkey eggs going to lockdown later and accidentally candled all these smaller white eggs before I realized what I was doing...

The good news is there are 3 for sure developing and dancing around in there.. Out of the scrambled ones, there are three that I couldn't decide, look about the same developmentally but didn't see any movement so I kept them. Had to toss 11 though due to quitting/non development. There were two really wierd ones that had started to develop but the embryo looked like it had been squished through a 1/8 inch hardware cloth.. I could definitely see the embryo but it was broken up like a checkerboard.. really wierd, I am guessing it was due to the scrambling.

One week left till hatch day!!

I too prefer the hens to raise the babies. It's easier on me and the chicks are happier. If one of my engish pros ever go broody, I could probably fit 20 eggs or more under their huge butts!

Jake, good luck with this hatch- 3rd times a charm!

Mary.... Glad your fertility is good!

I'll go ahead and go there:

Yes, Mary's fertility is AWESOME.

Good grief! God willing and the creek don't rise, my fertility is zero! My Icelandics are another story altogether.

Y'all are sick BTW.

Wahoo!

I can see I'm going to have to find a way to let them free range. Goodness they are the MOST active chicks I've EVER seen.

Kathy, the NH is feathering out big tail feathers.. roo or pullet?
