Icelandic Chickens

OKalie dokalie-- I will just try to keep my humidity up as high as I can.

Reptipro--- I like it, I know most people wouldnt. THere is a temp difference from the top to bottom, which I think I can fix by adding a little hat-clip on solar fan. It is GREAT for keeping humidity high, and is a good hatcher. I also have to turn by hand--which for me--is a non-issue.

But- I can get at least 36 eggs up at the top where the temps are right, and it makes a great hatcher.

Basically, it is NOT fancy, but I really like it.

I personally have no problem selecting roos for the best roo qualities and ignoring their looks. I have given away some of the most gorgeous roos because they were not good to the girls. I am getting ready to do a roo removal soon and the ones that aren't nice are going to go no matter how pretty they are. I don't tolerate aggression towards the hens or towards humans. You gotta do what you gotta do. I am lucky in that I have a local farmer who takes all my extras and they are allowed to freerange and grow up on his farm or his son's farm. Right now I have about five or 6 more than I should have for the number of hens I have so they must go. I had to put a saddle on one poor girl today because her back feathers are ripped out.

Brat. You just have to rub it in, eh?

Am I the only one broody-less? And I have ALL the broody breeds, well besides silkies, but they aren't really chickens anyway.

No, I have been waiting all spring. This time last year I had already had three broodies.
