Icelandic Chickens

Oh, I see Kelly has been there.

She has to ruin everything.

Anyway, those sure are cute packing peanuts.

Are you sure the one New Hampshire on the left is a male?

I think I have one female and four male New Hampshires but Kelly is coming over tomorrow so anything can happen. I called her today and asked her to take the voodoo curse off me.

Chicken Math:

87 eggs, minus the poopy ones Lukka and Dumb Dumb were sitting on equals 75 eggs. approximately 7 cartons in three shipping containers. It could work!

Well, as long as you got SOME pullets, you are doing as well as I am. Out of 15 New Hampshires, I have 3 (maybe 4) pullets. Out of 20 Barred Rocks I am thinking 5 pullets.

I would just keep hatching more, but they are almost all broody and not giving eggs.

I need some Icelandic girls for these 2 crazy hormonal boys I kept out of the last big batch I sent to Arkansas. They are driving us all nuts. Really, they need some female companions!

Kelly, this is the crested girl you sexed for me.......isn't she lovely?!

Here are three (and the back of a fourth) pretty Icelandic girls (note the slate legged one is a Auburn Java) in the group from the Easter Hatchalong and "week before" hatch:

Here is a close-up of one of the (hopefully) girls...love the circle around the eye:

Illinois , northern part isnt so far away for a weekend, could bring my son along. Well worth thinking on. Seems doable.

That amount of leg feathering is a start, I am wondering how much it will increase with both sides having it? It will be interesting to find out. For sure I am going to be looking for a crested roo with shank feathering. With a Rose Comb would be even better. Whatever color he is will be just fine, I will have hens with great color and diversity. Its just a hunch but I am thinking crests make for warmer heads, and maybe more extra feathering. we'll see.

On the six here I am calling them 3 roos and 3 pullets, Skjotur is a dominant roo, the little black with white chest and I am calling the white one also a roo, the other 2 larger and one small chipmunk I am calling pullets. I just hope that I get that many. All guestimates subject to change due to realities.
