Icelandic Chickens

Thought I'd share pictures of the Emu/Goat enclosures we are working on. We bought chain link kennels, a 6x10 for the emus and a 10x10 for the goats, put them side by side at the end of the barn. We are now working on putting up siding and a tin roof to match the barn. The fronts will remain open with just the chain link and gates. The divider between the two will just be the chain link so that they can see each other. The are all good friends and play together much of the day. We just want them separated at night for sleeping and eating. Later when they have babies we will be glad we kept the center wall.

Here it is under construction:

This is the Emu side. They sleep on the ground. The tarps will be removed when the walls and roof are done.

This is the goat side. They like sleeping off the ground so I threw together these platforms.

This is a photoshopped version with it painted to match the barn and a tin roof in place. It should be good protection from predators but still allow them a view and ventilation. Being 6 feet tall will make it much easier to rake out and clean.

I HATE this satellite server! The wind must have blown the leaves on the trees out of the way for a bit, as I can get online now. I have tried all day!

Anyway, I hatched 15 of 17 today. The other 2 were quitters, likely before lockdown. Funny though, I only got one chipmunk this time.

Congratulations on your hatch, Mary! Nice pictures, too. I love watching your projects come together!

The 4th box was a no show today. Hope to get it tomorrow. I set the others.

Yeah, alot of us live vicariously through Mary's posts, secretly wishing we lived in the country near Auburn with all of the amenities....

I am heading for my PO now, probably too early but want to give them the tracking numbers, and need to pick up some chicken feed, and a post hole digger to set the posts for the run.

Thats a great looking barn Mary, wish it was here, but I struggle on,

soons I hear anything on the chicks I will post here.

Another warm day high was supposed to be 67, its 82 right now. No rain either.
