I have one too! It's the girl that Kelly said was going to be a girl........I call her Kella.....a tribute to Kelly for confirming my hope of a girl and a tribute to Stella for her ability to get out and back in anytime she wants!!

It's that Viking blood, I tell ya!! They traveled all over the place................she's just keeping that Viking spirit alive!!

Seinna, The Other Mary

Really? Wow, I'm honored.

Kathy, love your Stella. The pics are hilarious.

Nice looking girl Mary, she is going to have a crest.

Yours is going to have a crest too Shawn. Looks like the Mohawk type.

Ok, now for me. Still only three hatched which is a huge relief. Ten are pipped! The rest are sitting there waiting till the official hatch time. Huge problem. I have fallen in love with one of the three babies. It is one of the tiniest chicks I have hatched. Looks the size of the OEG's I used to hatch. Here it is in my big alien hand.

And beside my mouse for size comparison.

I'll get over it somehow.

Edited to say: Huge congrats to Cynthia!

Question for Jake:

Were the heat packs still warm when the chicks arrived? Do you think four was too many? I think because they are heavy they jack up the shipping cost. I think I will just put the two under the excelsior pad for the shipment to Idaho.

Mary, It is 100* here! You do not need heat packs, do you? I don't think so.

FOUR? I have never used more than one, and that was winter time.

I was worried that they would be too cold. My shipping containers were for 50 chicks with a divider in the middle. I rearranged it to put all the chicks in the center with two smaller empty areas on each side. Plus there were so may air holes! It's not 100 degrees in Idaho is it? Cripes we haven't been out of the 60's in weeks! Our normal would be 85 degrees plus this time of year.

Oh yeah, a bigger box. Hmmmm, I imagine it is much cooler in Idaho. The hatcheries never use heat packs, do they? I don't know. Well, I know you will make the right choice.
