Icelandic Chickens

Yes it will a huge relief! My farmer friend called and he will be here at 7:30! Yeah! So I went down to the Icelandic coop and did a head count while it was still dark and they were still roosting. I actually have 28, not 29. I forgot to subtract Stella! So that's 3 roos and 25 hens. That is an approximate 1:8 ratio which should still keep the eggs fertile while keeping the peace and the feathers on the girl's backs. Next will be watching the chicks from Kathy grow out and decide what I want to do with them. We should at least have the summer off from crowing up by the house!

I hatched a batch of EE to resupply my layer flock, I have 4 boys in the bachelor pad and one of them thinks he needs to crow with every breath he takes

I'm thinking he'll be the perfect weight for the freezer in about 2 weeks

Yikes!! It sounds like 8 roosters in the garage is less conducive to sleep than having a newborn!!

This is just like Christmas!!!

I'm off to a job interview and will be back this afternoon...

17 have hatched, one with a little yolk sac attached. One of the ten remaining has pipped. The roosters have been picked up! I am going to lay down on the couch and hope to fall back asleep for an hour or so. Probably won't happen but you never know. My garage is a mess. They threw the shavings out of the cages all over the place. I'll clean it up after my nap. Peace has been restored. The youngest Icelandic roo I decided to keep crowed today. I hadn't heard him crow until now. He was laying low for safety.

Good grief! These are already acting like Icelandics. I lifted the lid of the Hovabator and they all ran to the back and tried to jump off! Scared the heck out of me. I dropped my camera in the chair and grabbed them by the handfuls! What is the matter with these silly chickens? It would have been a 2 foot freefall.

YAY! Today is the day! I just got rid of 100 chicks and grow outs. These Icelandics are being moved outside NOW! I believe Stella will not be contained. I believe she will continue to be a problem child................
