Is there a way to add water to the tray without opening the bator.

So the two shelves on the bottom are for hatching?

Are the turners automatic... I hope?

Oh, and the all important ? $$$????

@ Mahonri... you can get the Dickey in a 3x1 also. That is what I have. I got mine in March and have not turned it off since. Automatic turner, electronic thermostat with wafer backup. You can order with a 5 gallon reservoir. (bucket) that sits on top. There is a plugged hole that you could add water with a tube & funnel if you wanted. I just open it quick to add water or pull a tray etc. and have no problems. All prices are on the website. Mine was almost $700 with shipping. The customer service is beyond awesome. I spoke to Mr. Dickey himself to order and I called him when I got it and he walked me through setting up the wafer thermostat. (I am clueless) and also explained the whole operation of it etc. I am a satisfied customer. My only complaint is that I did not order the clear door..... I have a small window to peek through.....drives my CRaZy!
I have chicks hatching now and course have to peek in every 5 seconds

And as always..... I am enjoying this thread. Love the pictures and stories and stressing out with you all over hatches & shipping

The auctions are getting very tempting

You can buy the humidity pail for more $. I don't think it's necessary
unless you were going to be gone for an extended period. I put about
an inch of water in the pan every three days, but could fill it I guess since
humidity is about surface area. It recovers temps and humidity very
quickly, regardless.

Yes. They also make a 3 x 1.

Are the turners automatic... I hope?

Of course

750ish with shipping, clear door and electronic thermostat.
I think it was about 100.00 less than the comparable Sportsman.
I choose it because I heard and read such great things about
the customer service, though....

So sorry for those of you not having good hatches. I 2nd Mary's opinion of the Brinsea spot check thermometer. I've had much better hatches since I got it - it's super accurate.

Chicken Coach.......welcome!

Jake......what a bummer you have to look for a new place after all that work you have been doing. I hope you find a great place that already has a huge coop for you!

I have to stop going to the feed store. They are always slipping something in on my order! Look what just happened!

It just makes me so mad!

Kelly, the layer pellets are $4 less per bag than the Flockraiser. If you go get some, be careful you don't come home with ducks. They are sneeky that way.

Oh Michelle! That is maddening! I just listed four auctions for Icelandic eggs! If they don't sell, I can help you out and could probably even help you out early next week if they do sell. Check your thermometer. I was having lousy hatches only to find out the temp in the Brinsea was 3 degrees lower than it was reading. The Brinsea Spotcheck is an excellent thermometer. I hope you solve the problem soon. Candle next time, then if there is a problem you can catch it sooner and get more eggs.

That would be awesome! I am improving my thermometer collection

I'm usually a candle-aholic but this time I just didn't have time.

On a more positive note, I finally found the camera with the video capabilities (it was hidden in the bottom of my laptop bag and I looked everywhere BUT there

) So now I can take some videos of my Icelandic's antics. They are so fun to watch. I'm amazed at hose different they behave, very different than the layers, even though they are all raised together. They have their own way of doing things.

I'm sorry that happened to you but I'm glad you shared the info. PurpleChicken has been bustin my chops for buying a hovabator instead of a Brinsea, but this is the very first time I've had a problem out of dozens of hatches. I was seriously considering trading to a Brinsea just because he gave it such high praises. But I think I'll stick with my Hova for now, until I upgrade to something like a Dickey. It's only a matter of time
