Icelandic Chickens

Nella-brooders are great when the are setting.

I have one and was thinking of making another so I have one for a brooder and the other for broodies.

I'm putting the brooder on the wall so it's easy to see into and feed/water. I'm guessing I should put the broodies on the ground so they can walk in and out of the box with their babies after they hatch. Yes? No? Maybe?

Yes, yes, yes! Or you will regret it later.

Mary

p.s. Of course by the time they are a week old they will be roosting in the rafters if they are Icelandics. Put it on the ground for the sissies!

The five Icelandics that are just over a month old that Laree hatched out are just super foragers and they fly to the highest spot they can to roost.

I'm thinking I've got 2 roos and 3 pullets... I'll have to take pics so that Kelly the chicken gender guru can tell me what they are.

My Icelandics are getting too big and bulky, there isn't enough room for them all on the high spot inside the coop so they've started trying to roost outside, in the trees. Not safe to leave them out at night so I have to nudge them out of the tree and put them to bed

Michelle, here's my broody area. I built it with shelving on top for storage, so there wouldn't be wasted space. Broodies go underneath. It's nice to have in the coop, but a bit more of a pain to clean. This was during construction - it now has a door.

Of the two pastrymama hatched out, I have one roo and one pullet. Obvious as day, as of this morning. Both look exactly alike, except one suddenly grew a gynourmo comb.

So far I've only lost one juvie pullet to the heat. All the others have survived 118 on a couple of different days this summer in Phoenix.

I also heard that the devil called Phoenix and wants his weather back......

Are they both blondies?
