Icelandic Chickens

What?! It was a valid question.

I am enough of a redneck to admit I've eaten wierder, and would eat wierder if I were hungry.

Where does she live ? I will be in Cusick over the winter while I do some hard looking over the two state area, a place where I have a LOT of hiking and camping area within 75 or so miles from home. That will keep me busy the rest of my life. Playing Johnny Appleseed with the Icelandics and raising and having fun with packgoats and gardening at home, thats a real nice life .

Got a long ways to go to catch up with Mary and Kathy on getting folks started bless their hearts !

Ref to coon as meat, its a very common fall item in country areas I have lived, from upstate NY to MO, and throughout the SE, am told its very greasy, have to defat as much as you can and then cook in a roaster on a grate or something to raise it up out of the grease,

I did feed them to my sledogs when the neighbor trapped/shot them. He skinned them and I divided the carcasses in the team, they loved them. Not for me, not kosher unless you are actually starving. But there are plenty of critters we share with that can and will eat them.

Very little else is as good, to me, as home grown chicken, however you fix it, my favorite all time dish is chicken and dumplings, with a lot of good garden veggies and taters. That is a meal that is a meal !

Mary you dont know just how eager I am to see what next years hatch brings !!

The three roosters I am keeping are a pretty good range of color, from Isison as a white splash with beautiful Red Brown and Gold streaking against the White to Blau with the Blue-Red-Gold to Bjorn, the dark one, former chipmunk who has a Gold cape over a Red and Brown background with dark irredescensce and all three with magnificent tails. The hens run the full range of colors, from dark chipmunks to light splash wheatens, the genetic combos possible are huge in the numbers. Its going to be present time every day when they start to hatch.

I will be needing to find a lot of new breeders to take the progeny. Of course I will keep a few favorites, gotta.

Life is good, and better with Icelandics !!

Since turkey has decided to keep hanging out on the roof and most of the icelandics are in the trees or along the top of the fence I bet I have LOTS of room (on the ground) for some more Icelandics

Icelandics, that sounds like my viking roots and the cold winters here in Wyoming too, let me know if there are any Icelandics that I could breed here in Wyoming too.
I would like to breed chicken of my wifes and my own roots, Norwegian/German (her side) Dutch/Scandinavian/Indonesian my side.
Wyoming is huge and is in population and size pobably the best candidate next to Alaska for the room quest for the Icelandics (which are gorgious birds) Plenty of Room here in Wyoming!
