Icelandic Chickens

Quote:
My girl would never forgive me. She has cataracts and only about half the feathers she should have. Poor poor pitiful thing. I took her apron-saddle off for a couple weeks and had to put it back on just so she would look presentable. If she wasn't such a sweet thing she would be going to the processor Sept 13 with the boys.

I can't get my little girl to keep her saddle on, she shrugs out of it. I have never tried to use one before, is there a trick to keeping them on?

Vanity. She must wear it if she is vain at all.

Seriously though, my girls don't mind it them at all. Hillbilly Hen (Laura) makes the best saddles! I had others that they would not keep on.

It was a classic, to be sure.

My two Icelandic eggs. The first one is the bigger one on the left and the second one is more like a wind [fart] egg on the right.

Hint: If your hens are getting tore up on their back (more than just a few feathers lost, I mean red, raw skin) dremel the roosters toe nails and spurs. It is quick, easy and saves the hens a LOT of stress and pain. I started doing this after I saw my first "tore up" hen and have never had another one since.
