Icelandic Chickens

Wow Kathy!

Maybe you will catch the possum in one of your traps tonight. I think you should get one of those live stock guardian dogs.

Found my first egg laid by an Icelandic born here at NotAFarm!! Here it is with a Wyandotte egg (2 yr old hen) and a Java pullet egg (laying for three weeks).
Should be having a bunch more soon!!!!

Nothing happening here quite as exciting as all the ladies' stories... been trying to trap the dang coon that got 3 of my birds a few weeks ago.. So far I have got 3 feral cats and this weekend a big old skunk... What fun that was to dispose of.. STINKY!!!! At least I didn't get sprayed!!! Still no coon but at least no more losses either..

Candled the 4 eggs from Mary and I've got 1 quitter and 3 that look good for lockdown tonight... if they come early like Icelandics do.. they could hatch Wednesday or Thursday... My very first egg as an adult chicken herder has a blood ring but the 2nd egg ever has a dancing spider in it!!

Here is the Kella picture of the week! Could she be the new egg layer?.......or is it one of her hatch mates?......I'll be watching the nest boxes this week!!

The easiest thing I found to bait a trap with is dog kibble, if it doesnt get rained on its good for quite awhile.

I have a reverse Kella I guess, younger, a first of June pullet, she is wheaten on the back and blue on the belly and shading upwards. I think that she is going to be one of the bigger pullets, a tame one too !

The roos are all trying to chase the pullets like crazy, with Blau taking after each one in the process, he is going to be running off some weight at this rate.

As near as I can figure the Contessa was about 5 mos when she stated laying.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !
