Icelandic Chickens

Kathy drop the trap into a water tank, they cant swim far in the trap, and its far more humane then what they will do to chickens !

Great looking descendants Mary !!

I should have thought of that!

A neighbor that tans hides (or whatever that is) came and took care of it. He said it was the biggest one he had seen in a long time and was gonna keep it for himself.

Dang, those things scare the beegeebies outta me!

I had to work last night, just got home an hour ago. My "helper" did not set my traps. I had feed dishes toppled and emptied, and water containers are dirtied up ..... I know those dang coons had a party here last night!

Today I get my shooting lesson!

Michelle keep the .22 handy, ravens will kill chickens, chicks and rabbits just as a coon, fox or owl, only not as fast, they peck them to death.

I decided I am going to put a sign on both sides of the trailer:

JAKES ARK
Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats
Gun toting Bible Huggin Backwoodsman
and Tea Partier

Just so everyone knows who and what it is

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Packgoats.

Yep, so far our only predator loss to date is the raven that took one of our millies. (I don't count the dog, she was a PIA not a predator)

Tom was already out there with the .22, he was closer to the door than I was. Thank goodness our LGD is coming soon.

Good Grief, now everyone is getting in on the protest for moving into the big barn NOW!

I went kayaking with a friend and came home a litte wet and chilly. It was a great time, the lake was beautiful, and we didn't even mind the little rain that fell on us. Once we got out of the boats, our wet clothes were less than comfy

Once I got out of the nice warm shower I spent some time with my 2 legged kids. Once they went to bed we decided it was time to put the birds to bed as well. We walked out the door and were greated with this bit of ridiculousness.

All 6 of the "baby" turkeys were roosting on the chicken coop

H2B had graciously offered to put birds to bed but I was able to click a few pictures before he had to knock them off of there and put them in their pen.

As he went out back to get the board we keep on hand for plucking the Icelandics out of the trees, he found that not ALL of the chickens had gone to bed

Since he was already there, he decided to start with the chicken picking... the yellow arrow is pointing to the board that he was using, the shiney spot is the flash reflecting off an Icelandic eyeball.

In other news, I got to see our resident bat again. I hope he's a fell fed bat, we could do with a few less bugs. I plan to put a bat house on the back of the barn to make him feel more at home here.

Mary I forgot to put in the word Redneck on the discription, a Redneck Backwoodsman Tea Partier, a red background on the sign and big yellow letters. I'd also like to get some cedar splits to face off the 2bys on the corners, just to make it look homey.

I dont know if I could get a leaning stovepipe out the side and a couple whiskey jugs on the back or no. Need to think on that.

I got less then 4 weeks now to get her ready, and git er done,

I do have 3-4 stops to make enroute, one in WI, one in MN, one in SD and another in MT then the last stop in Boise, thats where another goat packer is going to get his start in Icelandics, next spring he will get a few more plus a lady in SE ID who has Icelandic Horses and Dogs. Surprisingly her 'puter handle is Icedog, imagine that !

So once I would have done it in 3 days, now I think it will be closer to 8.

Life goes on , and it is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats
