Icelandic Chickens

Broody update, four out one pipped and ready to go. I am moving that girl today so her baby had better get a move on! The older ones are going to need food and water soon and I can't provide that where they are now.

My emus did the best spazzy dance ever this morning. The last two days they just ran so today I figured I was in for a good show. Planned to grab my little video camera to take out with me. Ended up standing in my office trying to figure out why I was there! I remember once the gyrating and flopping on the ground began. Louis was standing and kicking himself in the head with his own foot. It was quite a sight. I think I will remember the camera tomorrow.

Me too, and I have the perfect hair for the 80's. Naturally curly and thick as heck. Yup, I had the wall of bangs.

But mullets were 70's.

True, But don't forget Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff with their big tall flat tops.

This batch has the height without the scruff poofing out around their necks.

As for the curls... My kids say I'm part poodle

I moved my one fluffy to the brooder this morning. SHE

is all blond. Still no sign of pips on the other eggs. I candled them on Sunday and they looked like they still had a couple days to go. Weird, since I set them all at the same time, but I will candle when I get home from work to see how everyone else is progressing.

Broody's last two are out. They were worth the wait!

The next to the last was a chipmunk pattern but really muted. Looks like some blue in there for sure!

Then it started screaming for it Mama so I put it back.

The last one was one of the pretty silver babies!

Thanks Kelly! That poor broody was so used to me lifting her up every four hours to retrieve stolen eggs, she didn't even flinch when I packed her and the babies into a plastic tub and carted them up to the little coop in the layer yard. Past broodies have tried to rip my arm off. She already has the babies eating and drinking. I am so happy to look in the nest boxes and see nothing but darkness and no chickens.

The pop door failed to open today (I had let them out the man door a half hour before the pop door was scheduled to open). I didn't even notice it hadn't opened so they were locked out until Michael just noticed the closed door. I opened it and they ate a little. I checked the goat feeder and there were seven eggs in there! Any port in a storm!

Mary- that is so great!

I am sorry I have been quiet lately. I haven't had anything to contribute.

Dar had his friend take the Icelandics, which is good. There is still someone around I can easily cross stock with.

It's still hot. The coop is still a mess. I am still gimpy. My kids are still cute. That is all.

Oh Laree....

You always have something to contribute. I am so bummed about about Dar's mess. Has the inspector been there yet? I hope he gets to keep his girls. What a shame if he doesn't. I wish we could all do what we want to do, within reason on our own property. I feel like I have lost a dear friend. I don't even know who I'll make fun of around the holidays.
