I got a weird egg today. It s not Martha's or Judge Judy's and they are all I have that are laying now except my little bantam who just started. Here is the egg next to the bantam egg. It is small and round like a ping pong ball and a bit pinkish. Is is possible my New Hampshire or Barred Rock laid this egg? They are just over 20 weeks old, my Easter hatch.

Hi Mary

sure, either breed could do it. I would guess the Hamp but either is possible. I have had RIRs that did and Hamps are supposed to be 'better' layers.

Kathy, this is my first post of the day, as I have a long day coming on and have to be outa here early, the 8am post WAS my good morning post !

Kelly I do feel nervous leaving you all without proper adult supervision while I am heading west, just one of those things thats hard to live with.

Mary, I think that the Good Shepherd Barred Rocks that Kathy has are bred to be a true productive dual purpose Standard Bred and the New Hampshires are from the German lines that were sent from the USA after WWII and then reimported here. My money would be on the BR, but.......

Be careful with that chocolate.......we don't want to read of Michael having to rush you to the ER in a "chocolate coma"!!

Jake, Have a safe trip!!

I could pull a plow in this weather. I can get my work done! I can get my work done! I can get my work done! I can get my work done! Neener neeener neeeeener!

So glad you are getting cooler weather Laree and Mahonri.

Jake - have a safe trip!

Mary - Congrats on the egg! I'm still thinking Kathy's 17 week old olive egger is going to beat my 27 week old barnevelders to laying.

It has been so busy here. The barn is coming along, we spent Labor Day weekend trenching for the utilities, my yard looks like swiss cheese, and the plumbers came and laid all the natural gas lines, then my BIL2B helped us lay all the pipe for water and electric. WHEW, Then we started filling in all the trenches and have all but about 60 feet done. The water lines are 4' deep so that's a lot of dirt to move.

Today the plumbers come back to install the heater in the barn and change out the pressure tank for the house (the one we have is too small) and then I think they are done. If the wind settles a little I will paint the outside of the barn and the goat house that will be the dog shelter.

Our new Maremma puppy arrives on Thursday
