Icelandic Chickens

Well, I survived camping, though I didn't get much sleep. I twisted my ankle in the abandoned train snow sheds, so it's still sore. The hike was absolutely gorgeous though, I'll upload some pics in a bit. The boys had a great time.

On Friday night, I lost Luna to a predator.

She got out of the run, and I think a hawk or an owl got her. There was a huge radius of feathers.

Thanks guys. She was an independent girl. I just feel badly because I wasn't here. Any other day I would have been able to get her back into the run, but that night we were at a dinner and didn't get home until 9. She could have got herself back in, but we fortified the gate area because of the suspected bobcat or fox that was getting into the run.

We ran natural gas from the house to the shed then out to the barn. Eventually, the shed will have heat too, but first the barn.

Anyway, the gas company's inspector when by the house today to inspect all the connections and install the last piece of the puzzle and throw the magic switch that will give us heat in the barn.

He called me beacause he wanted a couple things done differently, you know how those inspector types are, they always have to find SOMEthing. We discuss all the wither-tos and why-fores, and then he says "Oh yeah, a couple of your turkeys are not in their pen". It's kind of a given, they fly out about 17 times a day, however, I find it interesting that he didn't comment on the 2 dozen chickens that were more than likely also out of their pen....

NONE of my Icelandics believe in fencing of any sort.

I have great news if you have been following my saga of getting a female emu. I had two more DNA tested that were thought to be a pair and they are both GIRLS, the same age as Stuart and Louis! 140 miles from my house. We are picking them up on Wednesday! I hadn't planned on having four emus, but heck, I never planned on two husbands either! You should have seen the boys when I told they they are each getting their own girlfriend!
