Icelandic Chickens

So, for a few days I have gotten maybe one egg a day. I decided to give in and add straw to the nest boxes, negating the roll-out function, to encourage them to start laying again. That was last night. Today on a routine patrol of the ranch I made this discovery. I lifted this little sleeping platform in the goat enclosure. It is exactly four inches off the ground.

I find this: 21 eggs in a nest!

So, now I am mad. I am going to lock the goat enclosure during the day, remove the straw from the nest boxes and force them to lay on the uncomfortable nest pads. I head off to the barn coop do do just that. When I get there I find this:

Pure evil giving me the sideways stink eye. Sitting on what? One egg, tops! What do you want to bet that every egg that gets layed in the next 21 days gets layed in that nest box with that chicken?

Oh, and this guy, who visited the neighbor's yesterday without permission, ripped the earring out of the ear of a female visitor today! Michael had to grab his neck and choke him until he spit it out. OMG. Thank god she wasn't hurt. It was one of those earrings without a backing. I am going to go break into some of that chocolate in the freezer now. Thanks for listening.

so that's where you hid the chocolate. Mary if I were closer I would throw my body over the chocolate to keep you safe. I would rather suffer from the ill effects than let it hurt you.

As soon as I saw who the person responding to my post was, I assumed you'd suggest Vicodin too!

I think I may do that instead of the chocolate. If I had any, of course.

OMG, an earring?

Crazy emu. What will that boy do next? Can hardly wait til tomorrow to hear.

Mike is home and I had to show him the Emu Dance (video). He about died laughing. Lovin' it! By the way, when I told him emu males brood he didn't believe me. "Nooooooooooo!? You are kidding!"

yes the male emus brood, and yes a mad female can drop by & stomp the eggs/chicks, so Dad would often run the females out of the orchard where his males were brooding/now they are at RosecombRyan's.
The weirdest thing the Emus do, to me, is the bongo noises.
Sitting on the porch in the late afternoon, we could hear drums from every bush..as if wild men were out in the orchard, banging drums.

Size of adult Icelandics?
Egg size?
I remember the Warden was getting some very big eggs!
Anyone want to jump in?
