Icelandic Chickens

Tonya is sooooo easily swayed. If I sold used cars, I would want to live next door to her!

Hey Tonya, want an emu?

Hello fellow Ice People!

Notafarm that first pic looks just like my birds! In fact I thought "why is she showing pics of my birds"! The only difference is the comb types but I have a hen the color of each of those and my roo likes yours!

I agree the heritage questions are annoying. The ices are truly not for everyone. But they are for sure for me. They fit the bill for what I always wanted to "invenT" ,a farm flock that is a pure breed but has no limits as to looks. I am truly enjoying mine and can't wait to raise a whole bunch to enjoy on my farm when I get moved back there. My only other favorite is my EE bantam which is basically the same with the exception that I do keep certain requirements on them. They do have to have beards, ear muffs, and pea/rose combs. But as far as coloring ,there is no limit. Thats why even tho mine are as pure Americannas as you will find, I still call them EEs because I don't want to adhere to "standardized" colors or patterns. I just hate the breeders who swear that if its not a "recognized " color its no good! Thats why I will always fight to keep the icelands from becoming Standardized!

I have never had birds that like to roam as much as these ices do. They grab a few bites when first let free then its a "lets run over there or over here" game. All with much wing flapping and cackling and obvious joy! They are a riot to watch!

Quite often that is the case. We are still working on it. And we have that wonderful puppy to play with

And, we got married a couple weeks ago so that took just a little time and planning. Now I'm almost done getting all the paperwork done for my name change (who knew there were so many people who actually cared what your legal name is?) and DH just informed me we don't have enough chickens

so I'm working out the broody logistics.

Oh, and I hear Christmas is coming...

I hope everyone has been doing well and I really do plan on trying to catch up with this thread.

Congratulations Michelle! I saw another post where you referred to your DH and I was going to ask but thought that might be rude! That is so wonderful. Hope you have a long and happy marriage filled with poultry!

Thanks Mary. Since his other favorite girl is an Icelandic, and he's just spent months building our barn, I'd say the odds of keeping the poultry are good

Well, perhaps I need to apologize, but I was almost certain that Gresh had posted here before.

Sorry if I offended anyone here.

But as you all know, no one had better be dissin' my ICELANDICS!!!!

Kathy! I got my first egg from Raven today. She has been squawking and going in and out of the nest boxes for two days. Today she was singing the egg song with Bjorn accompanying her. Tonight I found the egg on the right in the bottom nest box! It has a matt finish instead of the glossy like Skye's egg and is more turquoise. It is hard to tell in the picture but it is different. I am so excited!

Why do I always have to go to work and miss all the excitement here?

YAY for Raven! Maybe she will calm down now!
