My plan is to use my one Icelandic that impersonating a pancake and one cochin to cover a dozen eggs each for the NYD hatch. These will be mix and match chicks for the layer coop. My layer flock is a colorful mix and I have some really pretty eggs in varying shades of browns and olives. I also got an egg today that actually looks blue-grey. It's real pretty and definitely going under a broody.

I plan to get all the Icelandics into their own private pen on new years day so I can set the first batch of eggs on Valentines day. I have to go back to DC the last week of Feb, and I'll get home just in time to put my first batch of Icelandics into lockdown

I am in the NYH too, and if my Icelandics were laying, I would pop the eggs in the 'bator too, but no, they are not laying yet.

I brought home 150 pie pumpkins from work for FREE!

I will be giving the chickens 3 pumpkins every 3 days all winter.

Michelle...........your pancakes need to talk to my girls. Briet has plucked her breast but she's not broody and still laying. Of course, she can't go broody for 2 more weeks - Barnevelder eggs won't be pure til then! (and I need Mary's Isbar girls to get a move on!)

They're trying Kelly! Frida actually intentionally brushed up along side my boot today when I was filling the feeders. She sure looks ready to me but so do a bunch of other slackers in the adjacent yard!
