Icelandic Chickens

Daron do your Ices have a light on them? I have several pullets from the same hatch and I know that they are laying. But they do have a light over them.

Winter is here, getting four eggs a day now, and this morning 3 were frozen and cracked. Purrkids lunch.

' It ' said that it was 9 this morn, but felt colder so I am sure it was, I got pretty good at judging temps when running the sled dogs.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

No, I do not have lights, but my coop walls are chicken wire and greenhouse plastic, so they have all day natural light. And I have been letting them "free range" in my 20x60 coop.

How the heck did she get so big? You know I LOVE BIG chickens! If I knew exactly who she came from, I would be making more!

I told you she was big!

She gives me nice BIG eggs too! I can't even imagine how big her eggs will be after her first molt.

Well, Totalcolor is due here at 11:00 to pick up my Icelandic flock.
I am soooooooooo glad they are going to someone so interested & dedicated to the breed.
So....she will have my birdies after today.
Sad, but I have to sell off alot of birds, and she is deserving of the breed.
I would not sell them to just anyone & actually turned 3 folks away that had little interest in them as a breed to be preserved.
Bye all!!

I used a Cuckoo marans X with Blue Am to get a deep olive egger, then bred her chick pullet to a wheaten Am (from cpartist) and that pullet is now laying & her egg is a turquoise green (not blue) so I have 2 colors of green now....

Hard to see in the flash, one OE from Mom & daughter is smaller turquoisy egg above

I am having alot of fun breeding various colors of OE....and the egg buyers I have here are delighted by green eggs.
