Beautiful chicks Mary !! For sure 'overachievers', another Icelandic survival trait as I see it, short incubation time in a colder climate. But these poor babies have no leg feathers !
The Fab Feathered 3 are doing great, come arunning when I open the door, not as gentle as my June babies, several of them would jump right to me, and still do when I go out and sit in the pen.
The little guy is a curious and social guy. but, alas and alack he will be going to a pet home, feathered legs and beautiful crest and rose comb not withstanding.
He has some frayed feathers in his tail, and a few here and there other places. He also has a fascinating color pattern developing, but I dont want the frayed gene in the flock, the other two dont show any of them, at least yet.
The other cockeral has very nice size, beautiful leg feathering, and I am guessing he is going to develop some beautiful back and wing coloring although overal he is still snow white. Birgitta has a very nice colored cape developing and barring to set off her crest. Its going to be an interesting winter watching them develop. They will be paired along with several others to see how the feathered gene works out with others as well as doubling up on it.
Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !
