Icelandic Chickens

I really like what you are attempting in regards to the Icelandic's combs. My Icelandics have quickly become my favorite bunch here, but I worry about the single combs during the colder times of the year. I have no rosecombs in my flock, but I am looking to add some more outside sources to the flock and hope to perpetuate that trait too. The Easter Eggers and Buckeyes do really well in my climate, and I attribute that to their pea combs.

Crests & feather legs sure could help too, thinking hats & leg warmers!

Jake, I just looked up your new home (come April) on Google maps. You are out in the middle of nowhere, and COLD!

It got down to 17f here one winter and I thought THAT was cold.

You must be very well dressed and used to it. Good luck, and I hope you stay very happy and warm

And those winners of the bird contest - really gorgeous birds too. How on earth do you keep them looking so fine in the middle of winter? Mine simply won't stay insidewhen it's wet and get all draggly looking. Oh well, I'd rather have them this way than namby-pamby ones.

4 eggs, 2 eggs made it to lockdown. They were my first eggs from my 3 pullets. One of them is not laying yet. Freeloader.

Did I mention Alaska? Brrrrrr. I'd surely die in about 5 seconds. (lived in CA all my life) It's currently 67 degrees here.

Look at what I've got.

Bator is going!

Isbar eggs, Icelandic eggs, a couple wellie eggs and a few barnie eggs. Wish I had more wellie and barnie eggs, but the girls weren't cooperating much. (they quit laying when the welsummer pullet died)
