Icelandic Chickens

Mary- Yes, I am very thankful for my parent pushing the doctors to get me implanted when they refused to. I am the 3rd child of 9 children of my parents, and I am the first to be born deaf. 4 sisters and 1 brother was born deaf too. 2 older brothers and youngest sister was born with normal hearing. Most of my siblings was implanted around 1 and 2 years old, while I was the latest to be implanted. Since I was implanted late, I have the most trouble understanding people on the phone, and pronouncing some of the words then any of the siblings.

I had another implant on the other ear, 2 years ago, and I can pinpoint where the sounds are coming from better then just one implant, but since the right side had not been used for over 15 years, it took that side a very long time to learn what kind of sounds that it was picking up. And the sounds that I am hearing on the right side sounds different then on the left side. My mom's dream is to have all of her deaf kids to have implants on both sides, but after my last surgery, the insurance company basically lied about the deducible issue, and so now two years later my parents are still paying for the surgery which is suppose to almost free! Ok, rant over, sorry.
I was looking at emu eggs on Ebay last week, and was so tempted to bid on some, but held my fingers off the mouse. My mom was walking by, and I said ''Hey, look at those pretty eggs, and she said what are those? I said emus, and would it be cool if we can hatch some, and she gave me ''The'' look.

Guess she is not ready for some yet. lol

That is great it worked my cousin has problems with his ears to.

I was amazed that when I had children, I managed to look exactly like my mother giving "The look", without every even trying! Something that we're born with I guess! With 9 children, your Mother's "look" has probably had more use than most of ours........kudos to her, and your Dad, for raising such a fine young man!

I've experienced a new version of Chicken Math - egg math. I just locked down my eggs (9 of them) and suddenly there are 13 in there! A trip by Mary's and I have 4 more Icelandic eggs due the same day as mine. So *poof*, egg math. When I locked them down, I heard cheeping in my eggs! Lucky for me, my son didn't slip an emu baby under his coat.

He wants an emu REALLY bad. DH took him to dinner with his parents Saturday night and all he talked about was Emu's.

Guess Mary's a bad influence.

Went out to get a Kella picture........she wasn't in the mood to have her pic taken and the Canon wasn't helping....the Fuji takes much nicer low-light pics........so I took some of the other girls.......Brella and Elska are in the Nusery/Hospital corner coop that has a window and a pop door. Here's my youngest Icelandic pullet, hatched Oct. 18, '11, and looking B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L at just over 3 months old..........

Here is one of Brella. Her leg is doing sooooo much better. She looks like Kella but no crest, a bit darker and more color in her hackles. I'm hoping to put her in with Dreki next month to get eggs for Mahonri for his Easter Hatchalong!
