I even have a picture of a handy little gadget for those incubator lids that don't have handles. I found it today when I was at a fabric shop.

Still spinning.....

Three Icelandics out! Third one is the same color as the second. It did not waste any time getting out!

Chicken Math 101

So, yesterday I sold 8 mixed pullets. On Wednesday I'm selling 2 more. Now, since Icelandics are a bit smaller than regular chickens, how many can I hatch to have the same amount (does it go by weight, or volume?). Can I hatch more than 12 without guilt. How do you get rid of the guilt anyway? Maybe if I ate some chocolate I would forget about the chicken guilt

NO guilt, no shame!

Nice, yea I am interested to see how these chipmunk looking ones end up, theres like 6-7 of them that are all very similar right now. Time will tell :)
Thanks for sharing your pics as well. I really need to get on building some new coops.. I have been clearing my 1/2 acre parcel for an Angus calf I will be getting pretty soon, I am almost done, and have it graded then I will be ready to throw up some fences, then start on new coops. There's just never enough time, and money is there.

Okay, let's see if I can get some pictures for you................this is Anna's first brood from 2011 the chick with the shell pieces stuck to him by the waterer is Boi and the other four are one pullet and three other cockerels. I will post some more pics of this group so you can see what they turned-out to be.

Here they are a week later. You can see how quickly they got wing feathers. Boi is the "blonde chipmunk" back of the head at the very back.

This is Boi with two of his brothers. You can see that they are darker, he is blue (gray) with red.

Here is Boi today:

Here are the darker brothers. I did not keep any of them.

All three of them ended up with coloring like this.

Here is what the pullet Branda looked like as a juvenile and now:

Wow, that took a lot longer than I thought to find those in among all my pictures and it's still doesn't flow very well. I don't know if that helps at all. I was going to do another hatch but I'm fried at this point. I really need to go through my pictures and make a folder for each one (at least those thatI still have) so it's easier to find pics when I want them.
