Icelandic Chickens

No, he is single, his extended family is his ex inlaws who have adopted him, and several other families who did the same, he is impossible to take anywhere, cant get him away, the mothers want him for their daughters and the grandmothers for their granddaughters, they are probably the most vicious fighters when its time to take him on out.

Congratulations Daron ! Enjoy !

Life is good ! And better with Icelandic Chickens !

These are two of this year's hatch. They broke out of the grow out pen and spent the night with all the predators. Finally I took a cage and propped it up with a stick with a string tied on the end. I put some feed under the cage and had to hide around a corner. My brother in law laughed and said he tried it when he was a kid and never caught anything. Well, I caught these two. They are from Bjarthur's pen. The hens in there are Drottning and Doppa (RIP dear Doppa)

Help with the gender on the white one, please. I thought pullet but now I'm thinking cockerel.

Wow, looks like everyone has been as busy as I have this late summer , early fall. I now have some pictures of my Icelandics, I have three roos with 4 to 7 hens each. They are a combination of Mary (not a farms) and Sand Hill preservation center. They are all beautiful and healthy, but very shy and very hard to get good pictures! Hope all are doing well...Happy Icelandics!

I need to get some new pictures too. My Icelandic flock has about 10 pullets, laying who knows where, and probably as many roosters. They are pretty easy going, so I haven't culled any yet. They keep themselves well separated during the day and roost together in the barn at night. It's really only the Iowa Blues that cause trouble, they are ornery boys!

I just disposed of a icelandic rooster today. Got in with my crele penedesenca somehow and beat the tar out of him.
I am hoping he will be ok but lost alot of head feathers so we shall see.

Curly was promptly offed. I have a younger icelandic rooster coming up who is much mellower.
I am going to rehome him and the 3 icelandic hens I have if anyone in norcal is interested
