Icelandic Chickens

Quote: Pullets then.
Lost one of my favorite black Icelandic hens today,She had a beautiful crest on her that I just adored. She laid a big beautiful, long white egg yesterday and today I walk into the coop and she's dead. Felt normal weight, looked perfect, just dead. I shed a tear.

I'm now down to 9 pullets and Drekki Jr. I hope I get to hatch at least a few this winter from them.
I'm so sorry Dar.

Losing one is hard, and even more so when you have a small flock.

Good to see you guys here, the thread is getting lonely, but we are what we got here.

I am making plans for a new coop for over the winter, for two breeds, thats about all I want to take on with all the other things I have going on.

I'll have to take a picture of my last chick, it's getting big. It was from an egg from Jim, out of Drekki's pen. It has a lot of blue in it.

And I'm now getting two eggs every other day from my girls (the two boarders need to get in gear soon).

Does anyone know of where I could find some Icelandics in Connecticut? I am looking to add about 15 birds total to my existing flock and then start breeding icelandics next spring. I only have 2 so far and no need for a rooster yet. Any help or info will be greatly appreciated. I will be ordering hatching eggs as well, but not until February or so.

Welcome to the group!

I know that there are breeders in New England so keep looking. There are a number of folks that you can contact from the older posts who ship eggs, the Marys, kathy, Daron, and others, just PM them. If you get a chance for a good rooster take it. You dont want to be shopping for one late spring.

The Sheriff started her flock with two hens and two roosters. Food for thought.

Good luck.
