I read up on Icelandic chickens. What I could find, atleast. And by the sounds of it, they’re very rare is the US. Are they not as rare/desired as I’ve read..?
I have a 6 week old pullet/cockerel pair, posted for only $6 each. On multiple sites. No takers or even inquiries. I’ve considered just raising them to sell their hatching eggs, but I’d rather not if nobody wants them. Input? They’re both BEAUTIFUL! Obviously the bad angles and red light messes with the pictures and doesn’t show their color well.

The problem isn't that they aren't rare, or aren't desired, but rather that people generally haven't heard of them. I raise them, and the only people I have met that have even heard of them are on the internet. People don't want to buy something that they don't know anything about. And then when you do find people who know about them...well, Icelandics aren't known for being the cuddly type who thrive in a small coop with a little run, which is what many backyard chicken owners have these days.

I find that it is best to target groups interested in rare breed preservation, or homesteaders that want a chicken that is leave-alone-and-grow, instead of people wanting nice, fluffy pets.
