Idaho?

I buy mine from Zamzows right now, but I was purchasing from the Meridian Feed Mill previously. I found the feed from the Meridian Feed Mill had a lot of dust in it and was getting worse, both the pellets and the crumbs and that is why I switched. Then I realized that the stuff Zamzows sells is higher in fiber as well as less dusty. And by dust, I mean dust from the feed. The Feed Mill is much cheaper, I may give them a try again due to costs, they were around $15 or $16 for a 50 pound bag, Zamzows is around $23.00 for a 40 lb bag, but you can catch them on sale at around $18 a bag on occasion.
Yeowch! I pay $15 for a 50 lb bag of Nutrena at Big R up here, and they give a 10% discount.

So I am looking into local sources for chicken feed. Is anyone willing to share what they are feeding their layers? Where you're purchasing it and how much you're paying?
My dad gets our chicken feed from D&B and get a 50lb bag of Nutrena Layer feed (we use the pellets right now but next bag we buy I want to try the crumbles and see if they waste less), he pays anywhere from $16.99 to $18 something for their feed. Hope this helps.

I buy most of my processed feed at our local feed mill but during breeding season I do buy Purina Game Bird crumbles as well. At our feed mill, the price fluctuates with the season. All this month their 50lb chick starter has been on sale for a little over 14.00. Yipeeee!! I also use poultry wheat and black oil sunflower seeds to stretch my feed bill. They sell cracked/whole wheat for around 8.00 for a 50lb bag. At my local Swensens they have clean wheat seed on sale for 17.95 for 50lbs. I use the whole wheat to make sprouted fodder.

Welcome to all the newbies!

The Meridian Mill is having free tours tomorrow and I thought I would take the kids for fun. I am going to price out feed while we are there.

ETA: Are there any other mills locally that make feed?

How cool! I wish I could make it but I work in Boise during the day. How often do they do this and how do you find out about it?

There is another feed mill but I am unsure of the name and location, it is where Zamzow's purchases their feed from. Their packaging states it is produced in Meridian but I had an associate tell me the name of the mill and the location at one time. Also on Craigs List I have seen an add for local Non-GMO chicken feed and I thuoght they were in Nampa. Another place I thought of that sells feed is North End Organic Nursery if you are wanting to go in the Organic/Non-GMO direction. I would love to feed Non-GMO but I can't afford it.

Cute Baby pig and goat pics!!! That is awesome!! Makes me want a small farm, too... someday!

Kalalyn, need to see pics of your chicks!!

kemclaughlin, where is garden city, by boise?? I buy mine at one of the feed mills, I hear they sell it in Firth, too... in fact, who was it that said firth had food-grade DE, is that right??

I don't know about the DE. I've never bought it and never asked about it. That is where I get my fee. It's only $26 for a 100lb bag of layer feed.

I will take some pics tonight. I only have 4 at the moment. Sold 6 already and someone else is going to get 2 more this weekend. I will probably keep the last 2. 1 of them I didn't think was going to make it but she is doing great now.
