The new coop and chickens.... I'm new to the site. I also don't know what types of chickens these are. I'm confused, can't seem to tell male/female yet.... Interesting enough.... I'm hoping some of you are around Caldwell. Look forward to speaking with anyone. :-D

Welcome to the forum April! I can't really help you with what kind you have from the pictures, possibly the black and white one is a Barred Rock but I am no chicken expert by any means, We have only had chickens for about 2 to 3 years now.

FOR SALE:

Gizmo, my black crested White Polish. Very Sweet, very much holds her own with the big girls...but she likes to yell every time she sees me and won't stop. Even when I am right there petting her she yells. She lays an egg most every day. 6 a week. Early day layer. She is so talkative, but a little bit more than what i need with 2 roosters crowing day and night.

Anybody want her? She is going on KSL today.
Hi Casa and Pawtraitart, just jumped over to this thread.... been a long time!!! Way too busy!!

.

I read your post a while back about this being the slow season for sales!! So glad you posted that. My little hatchery has only been public for 3 weeks now. The first two weeks were great...sold all my 8 week old pullets and even some roos, and bunches of babies, but then business died when Cal Ranch had their Grand Opening and offered super feed sales and brought in more chicks...UGH!!

. As you mentioned, people start buying again in the fall, which I'm so glad to hear... I'll have more older pullets again by then.... was starting to panic. With this being my first year I thought I was going to owe the national debt to the feed store here, if it didn't change. People don't want the babies this late 'cause they're too busy with summer activities.... such a learning experience for me!!!!

I'm getting 6+ Welsummer eggs from a BYC member!!! I'm so excited, because I really want some Wellies! But I have to borrow the incubator from 4H and the person that has it now is on bacation so we can't get ahold of her to see if I can have it now. I reserved it for August 26th which means CAL Ranch's Chick Days will be over by the time my chicks hatch...here's hoping for a good hatch or that one of you has some similar age chickies in case I need emergency chick friends again.

I am hatching :) I set eggs from my orange NN, and the daddy is a paint showgirl roo. Should be interesting chicks, I hope they are cute :) Will let you know if they hatch I would love to share.

Congrats on the Wellies, hope they hatch great for you!

WELCOME!!

I am not on very often, but we are in Caldwell. I know the chicks move super fast, but if you are able to get close-up shots of them it would be easier to take a guess at your flock :) I've been keeping a flock of mixed standard hens (for eggs & meat) since November and my son has started a small flock of bantams for fun. HIGHLY recommend combing through the different threads you will find here. I have learned a TON!
