Help please! Today when we were playing outside I heard a little crazy baby yelling for mama sound. Saw something waddling in the road and turned out to be a duckling. Man, was he fast! But I caught him and no family in sight. I don't know how he got up here because we are at least 30 feet above the river. Anyway, we bought some pine bedding, starter, and feed dishes for him. I filled a mason jar with some hot (hot, hot) water and wrapped it in a towel to keep him warm. We really can't afford a heat lamp or one of those big, metal things to keep him in. So he seems okay. I don't think he is eating though. I am not sure if he is sick or what. I hope the sweet, little thing makes it through the night. What should we do for this little guy to make him happy?! Never had a duck before. We are already talking about finding another duckling for him since I read they get lonely. The chickens (even mama chicken) didn't want anything to do with him.

Do you have a desk lamp with a regular bulb. Not one of the swirly ones. That will provide some heat for the little guy. Put in the highest watt bulb you have in it. Have you been dipping his beak in the water? It is more important that he drinks than that he eats at this point. Good luck with him.

Will putting an infrared heater in the room with him and shutting the door do the trick? It will keep it toasty. Do I have to set an alarm to make sure he is keeping his beak wet? Thank you.

Put an old stuff animal or small blanket to curl up in, as long as you dip his beak in the water make sure he gets a taste of it an he will know . you can space it out an do it a few times also just to make u feel better that he's getting a little . But as long as he stays warm but not too hot in there I don't see anything wrong with it . Hope that helps .

A feather duster works well too.

He made it through the night!! Kept it WARM in there and gave him a little stuffed animal to cuddle with. He has been playing with it all morning. He keeps trying to jump out of the tote we have him in. He is crazy, haha. Crazy cute.

Baby ducks drown fairly easily so make sure whatever water you have is shallow and if you take the little guy swimming keep it short and help him dry off a little after

Here is where we have him set up. I am using an egg dying cup for his little water cup and then a regular waterer for drinking water. He keep laying in the water and trying to jump out! Keep drying him off.
