Idaho?

There isn't one for this group, but several of the breeders on this Idaho thread have pages. I have a page called Idaho Chicken Hobby Hobnobbing that is a general chat and information type of thing. Quite of few of the Idaho folks (and beyond) have joined and post there: http://www.facebook.com/groups/445180078835674/

Wow, you kids have been busy! Fun to read all your posts since forever ago!

We have an accepted offer in on a place in Emmett. If that goes thru, crossing fingers, there will be plenty of room to bug you guys to fill it with all the rainbow of color eggs layers you have.

Wishing you all a merry Christmas

How fun to have your sister to share with! Wow this time of year the eggs ship okay.. Good to know.

In the bator are my show prospects for 13, all Wyandotte; LF BLRW and Patridge - Bantam Partridge, Black, Chocolate and one lonely Silver Pencil. Hurry up already, LOL, I wanna see the fluffballs!! Setting another 50 tomorrow :)

Yeah, right?? If I counted correctly, mine go into lockdown Friday evening ( I set late for the NYDH) Of the shipped eggs, only a few of them were not fertile, and have had a few quitters... Hoping I end up with at least 20 for lockdown, we'll see!!

Did a side swap with a nice lady from AR, she was going to send me some German New Hampshires in the spring and just sent them this weekend, I guess it's good I had to pull what I did, or I wouldn't have room in the bator for her eggs, lol!

chickenhill, how big are your blue wyandottes? I saw they are bantams, but, say, compared to the bantam cochins??

Hello fellow Idahoans!

fun to find a forum for my neck of the woods :)

Just adopted a flock in Caldwell. Hubby & I are working on enlarging/rebuilding the coop we received. Our girls are super cramped, trying to get them fairly comfortable to keep their health & egg production up. Not sure what the future holds for us in the world of chickens but we want to take good care of what we have. (1 RIR, 3 EE, 1 Polish Bantam, 3 SexLinks, 2 Anconas)

Any suggestions/opinions on winter housing? Been looking through different coops here on BYC and have a few ideas but we are also open to wise counsel

We are newbies, my family had chickens, like....30 years ago or so, and I don't remember very much about it.

Our hens are just over 1 year old and were laying well until the big move, about 3 weeks ago. They do not like the snow!

thanks, in advance, for you help - looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Mine were all over the board on fertility, probably because I did not have them under extended light yet. Most are fertile now though, woop woop!
The German New Hampshires are beautiful. Did you get them from Kathy?
My blues are more on the small side of the wyandotte banatams. Never weighed them. They look smaller than the average Cochin bantam but that could be because of all the Cochins gorgeous fluff.

Welcome MeAndTheBoyz! As far as the coop goes...As long as they have a place to keep dry, out of drafts, yet have plenty of ventilation they seem to do well here in the winters.

Welcome Meandtheboyz... I have all boy children, too)

So I'm down to 14 and we'll see how many go to lockdown tomorrow... Feeling kind of sad I had to pull so many... but I am stubborn and will keep at, I'm sure having shipped eggs and such has something to do with that... I wasn't sure about getting shipped eggs this time of year, although the ones I set earlier came when it was still fairly mild, we'll see how those New Hampshires do... the lady I got them from is Pauletta...

Ditto on the coop... they need something free of drafts, dry, but ventilated (like up near the top so it's not drafty)... I prefer to have mine on the ground, it just doesn't make sense to me to have an elevated coop when all that cold air can blow around underneath them in the winter and if it's on the ground I can throw down lots of straw for them and they still have a place to dust bath when there's snow on the ground outside... but maybe I'm weird???

You're not weird, I am thinking of cutting the legs off of my coop so it's lower to the ground to keep it a little warmer for my flock. MeAndTheBoyz is my older sister Marcie (no we didn't know each other had chickens she called to talk our dad, and we come from a family of all girls with dad being the exception).
