Idaho?

I'm so sorry Michelle. This cold has been brutal.

We had to put down our very old rescued goat and my 30 year old mare this month. This cold has just been so hard on the older ones. I still have a 33 yo, 41 yo, 24 yo and 23 yo mares.

They keep saying the cold is going to break, maybe this time it really will.

I just need this severe cold weather to be over. My birds are doing well so far, but if this continues I just don't know. To lose one of our horses out of the blue for no apparent reason is devastating, especially one that was part of my husbands driving team. Tina has lost her pull mate so won't be pulling the big wagon anymore. I'm getting to the point where I dread going out in the morning. *sigh*

On a positive note, I have more chicks hatching this morning and my ameraucana are starting to lay again. Now if only my orpingtons would get with the program. They are being slackers with this cold weather.

Michelle, I am so sorry to hear about your losses. Going through that is so... sad and low. I am so glad to hear that you have some positives to think about. The weather will break, I am hoping that it will do so in your area very soon!! Take care.

I'm not having a good winter so far. We've lost one ewe, two lambs, and this morning one of my husbands shire mares out of a matched team died for no apparent reason. I just found her dead this morning. Sorry to put a downer on this thread, but I'm beside myself with grief and frustration at the moment and venting helps a little.
Gahhhh! That is horrible! Vent away, that's what we're all here for. I hope things perk up for you all.

We will welcome the positive for sure! I am dying to get some more ameraucana babies from you :)
My two wheaten girls here quit a few weeks ago, can't wait to see those pretty blue eggs again.

I have babies for sale if anyone is interested--a few two week old FBCM ..looks like one boy and two girls, not positive yet. Also I have some mixed breed that appear to be sex linked--the cuckoo pattern ones are boys and I have a few, one two week old and 2 that just hatched. FREE roosters to anyone wanting them.:) Then I have the girls that are solid black. Not sure what happened here, but the mom is cuckoo marans and the dad is either a blue wheaten roo (which would make these babies olive eggers) or a FBCM daddy. But all the cuckoo babies are looking (and acting)very much like boys and the the black ones look to be female. Daloorashens was saying the wheaten daddy could possibly make the sex linked babies, so I am thinking it must be him :) They are really cute little penguin colored chicks.

Ok, my phone is being weirdd with quotes... sorry... soooo sorry michelle to hear about your losses, esp your mare, how sad, I would be crying about it, for sure... go ahead and vent, sorry we can't give u a shoulder to cry on, too...

Glad ur birds r doing ok! My orps are big time slackers, too, my best , interestingly enough, and my leghorn EE...

Sure keeping my fingers crossed it warms up a little, I want to set more eggs, and those poor birds are being stingy, not that I blame them, I would want to be fluffed up in a warm place, too

I will look at the egg link when I get homw, Shawn, my phone won't let me,lol

Yes, I'm still really upset about our losses. It's nice being able to vent here, though. Folks who don't have animals don't understand how much it hurts. To some people, they are just animals. To me, they are all family.

Anybody looking for some snowflake bobwhite quail? I have an extra male and can sell one of my pairs if the extra male is also taken.

Sorry about the losses Michelle, and I thought I was having a tough winter with this blasted cold weather and ice storm. Awesome about the new chicks hatching.
For an update on my chicken adventure, my SLW's finally started laying so that means all 6 ladies are now laying but I think my rooster is sick.
