Idaho?

WOOT representing Idaho and our beautiful chickens.. I'm so excited my harlow was picked for chicken of the week! i screamed so loude when i saw her picture there i was like is that my harlow i had to take a triple look just to see it was :D

The answer is....the same reason that I can have chicks hatching, chicks in the brooders, and young birds in grow out pens and I'm still tempted every time I go into Cal Store and see that they have chicks. As if I need more! Chickens are so addictive.

Yes they are, everytime I go into D&B and see the baby chicks I want more. Since I only have one pen I am limited on how many I have.

Thanks!! by the way how is that rooster doing??? is he doing better after the little amputations and the bugs???
yep loads better, I have to rebandage the toe though, he keeps breaking it open. I am trying to figure out how to clean the vaselline off of him. Does anyone know if I can use dishdoap or is hand soap a better bet? I also just got some cute little fuzzybutts from the feed store and man are they cute and noisy. I can't get this heat lamp thing figured out, it is either making them too hot or it's not putting out enough heat. I have tried a normal lightbulb and an actual heatlamp bulb..... any ideas?

Dawn does all those advertisements with their dishsoap being gentle enough to be used to clean up birds that are oil spill victims, so it should be fine.

I agree about the dawn. You will just have to keep him under a light or some place warm until he gets totally dry again.

As far as the babies light is concern...I guess part of it is how big the place you have them in is. I usually have a big box and put the light in one end and the food on the edge of the light circle and that leave the other end and around the edge of the light circle for them to get warm or get away from the light. If I see they are all way away from the light I put the light up higher some. Same the other way. If they are all huddled under the light and not spread out I will lower the light. Also a thermometer helps out a lot. I try to keep it at 99 degrees right under the light the first few days. But you can tell by the way they act about the heat too.

Waterless antibacterial hand soap might clean off the Vaseline. It does great at removing baby oil (I use baby oil to loosen up tape to easily remove it from injured chickens' legs).

Thank you for the idea for the dawn dish soap, I will pick some up from the store when I am down there next. Next on my list is getting a thermometer to put in the rubbermaid bin I have them in (I am cooking up a plan for an actual brooder pen for them, I just have to find the material's).
Mbleily they seem to be doing better now that I lowered the heat lamp (I put the light bulb back in it) down into the bin so thank you for the idea, next time I am at Lowes I am going to look for a smaller heat lamp bulb, the one my dad was letting me use was putting out too much heat for them.
