Idaho?

We worked on our coop today. Just clearing out junk that got stored there. Big nasty surprise awaited. Oh well not something that will take long to fix . Just have to put in new joists on that corner and side. Fortunately we have a supply of reclaimed lumber.

Hi guys! I'm located in Meridian, and just ordered my first chicks! I ordered silkies from Ideal, and they should ship out on the 29th.

Nope, not yet! I still have to order it, but I have time. :D I'm going to go out next week and get stuff for my brooder, feed, etc. Gonna hit up the Mill for feed, I think.
I like to get our chicken feed from the grainary instead of a feed store. I think they are cheaper but its been awhile since we had chickens and we never had chicks before.
Have you decided what kind of coop you are getting?

Yeah, I checked out the prices someone posted a few pages back, and it does seem pretty cheap! Though I haven't priced anywhere else yet. I was planning to look when I go get everything this week.

And yep, I have!

I plan to paint it up to match the house, since we have left over exterior paint from having a few boards of siding replaced. I'll just have to get some white to do the trim! I'm only wanting to keep around 4 hens, and I can't keep roos in my subdivision, so I figure it will be a good size for four from what I've read.

Welcome!!!

Mo5, I agree with birdguy, that RIR looks like a roo...

Fun to see so much more activity on the ID thread... last year days would pass sometimes between people posting... so I would just say...

Well, good night!!

Picked up my wiring for the roof last night.

Dad also picked up another 2x4 because he didn't like the way the boy made the roost in our coop. He is going to redo it. It was just made very unstable and even though only 2 chickens will be roosting, full grown it may be even wobbly for them.

I bought my coop bedding. Sand on the ground and then in the nest boxes I was going to use the hay or pine shavings, would shavings be okay in the nest areas?

My goal today is to get a side of the run down (even though I already dug it 4in into the ground

) so we can get the coop inside of the run! Re-set the run up and then *hopefully* begin on the rooof a bit! If not the goal is most certainly have it up end of this week because my chicks and older duck are getting stressed being inside as my brooder isnt *that* big.

Oh! We also found Ducky a friend! Ducky is a 3week old Khaki, we finally found a little baby duck we named Peepers who is about 1 week old right now, a Pekin.

I have heard hay is too moist. Straw is better. :D Do you have a pond for the ducks? Just curious. :)
