Idaho?

Actually I was told pine shavings are best to use as bedding in the coop because it helps keep bugs away, I currently use straw because it's all I have at the moment, I plan on getting pine shavings next time I make a feed store run. And usually if you post a picture of the bird in question there will be someone on here that can help you with wether or not it is a rooster or hen. Good luck

Thanks! I will get a photo up tomorrow. I was working too much on the coop and run today to remember a photo of them.

HI there. Gooding Hillbilly here. We have 4 Jersey Giant hens, A Silver Laced roo the neighbors gave us, and I just picked up 23 chicks from the co-op. 15 cornish crosses, 5 Sagittas, and 3 others that I don't know what they are. I'm loving the chickens. I had one of the giants go broody last year, but the roo last year was a dud. I'm praying every day that one of the girls goes broody again this year, and soon.

My blog is rhaige9.blogspot.com. It's everything that goes on here, recipies, horses, chickens, the calf, the garden, projects we're working on...

Welcome! I'm so glad to see so many more people on here! Now if some of y'all were here up north, that'd be even better!

Idaho Falls folks, I'll be down the weekend of May 18th and 19th for the Snake River Fiber Festival and I'll be stalking your eggs.

We went to Cal stores on Saturday to look for a gift for my dads bday and while I was looking my 2 older kids took it upon themselves to buy 2 ducks. When I came home from work yesterday my son met me at the door and begged to go back because his had died so we went back and came back with 2 more, and an incubator as my homemade one is on the fritz and I am getting some eggs from Michelle.

Well, Zip the Jack Russel Terrier puppy is a better dog than I give her credit. I thought for sure if she ever got close enough to a chick, she would grab one.

I had her tied out in the yard on a lanyard to give her a chance to go potty (she takes forever to do it and I would be out there an hour waiting)

The chicks were in their little run for the day since it's nice out.

Husband unbeknownst to me adjusted Zip's collar, so she slipped her collar.

I hear this huge ruckus outside coming from the direction of the run and see Zip missing from her tree and braced myself for the worst. The neighbor was outside when I came running and said "Don't worry, she was sitting in your driveway so I put her in the little fence so a car wouldn't hit her." My heart dropped and I KNEW there would be carnage.

She was a good dog. I still don't trust her with them, but today everyone remained unscathed.
