Idaho?

Okay, have to share one more photo with my BYC peeps today.....I hope this one is a pullet.

LOVE it :)

feed for my chicks = 50lbs non-medicated starter/grower + electrolyte water for the first week. plain water after that. I've started mixing in a bit of chick grit because I found a "baby cake" at D&B and wasn't sure how they would handle digesting it. everything seems to be going well.

I am working on getting my home-grown ACV going, I put some in the water occasionally but I don't have a large enough supply to make it a staple yet.

I really need to find some acreage to move to - there are so many breeds i would like to raise. those mottled babies sound fun! but I am also over-limit..

so, my son informed me recently that he wants diapers for his chickens - he HATES getting pooped on when he's holding them. (i appeased him with a dishtowel on his lap for now..) I have a feeling we would be laughed at quite a bit, but I bet he would have a blast taking his pet on a play date. Looking at a couple of different styles - thinking i should surprise him with a couple.. whatdya think?

I have some of those from Louise's Country Closet. They are adorable! LIke playing Barbies with chickens. The aprons are super cute too :) I bet he would love them!

What is this one? is this what a Jubilee Orp is? I like it alot

Yes, this is a jubilee orp baby. I'm thinking "girl" but I could be wrong. My blue orps all look the same for a long time. The males just don't grow a big comb or wattles. I'm adding some new blood to my BBS orps in the hopes that I can correct this. It's so much easier when the boys look like boys early on.

Does anyone know how good of layers BCM's are and how winter hardy they are?

Wow, I am very late seeing this post!! My BCM's lay, on average, every other day, and they occasionally take short breaks.. they were winter hardy, my roo lost just the very points on his comb, and that's with the -18 temps we had and no supplemental heat...

We went to get some last minute items for our chicks being delivered on the 20th and ran into some EE's. :D So we have 3 EE's 2 weeks old from Cal Ranch. They get theirs from Dunlap or Welps so am pleased to see what kind of chicks they have. :D
I dont know if their color makes a difference in egg color but we got three as different as possible.
Color of chicken doesn't influence the color of eggs it will lay

We built the framework for a new greenhouse this weekend, After it was put into place my mind starting thinking.....hmmm....I could fit a lot of juvenile chickens in there. LOL

Ohhh.. I can definitely see the chicken potential!!

A bantam Easter egger that just hatched.

Is that from one of my eggs??? I haven't hatched a white one yet, fun!!

That is really cool, I had never heard of these...they are so pretty! I bet the adults will be amazing!
I sure hope it is a gal for ya!

Would anybody be interested in some Splash Marans and/or BBS Mottled Ameraucana? I have eggs due to hatch May 24th and I can already see some very good development in the ameraucana. (I can't tell on the Marans eggs yet) I only need a few chicks out of these hatches so the rest will be available. Of course I'm assuming I'll hatch at least the number I need.
