Idaho?

I love my cochins and brahmas. Right now they are out in their coop panting away and making me worry. The sex links and EEs are panting too so it is not just them.

All of mine are walking around panting too poor things...it's too hot right now lol. I have 3 cochins and their with the rest of my chickens right now hiding out in the shade haha. Love the cochins tho they make me laugh everytime they run around! Sounds like your going to have a hard time only choosing 6 chickens. I have 30 and I can't think of one I would want to get rid of lol

we are moving from Athens GA

Wow that's a big move! I just looked up the weather in Athens, GA, are you sure you want to move here? It is 100+ degrees here today and this entire week. The chickens handle the cold better then they do the hot temps! For the cold, you will need to make sure they have a dry draft free coop to go into at nights. No need heat the coop, they handle the cold very well and heating the coop is a big risk of fire. And if there is snow on the ground my chickens will not venture out very far.

oh it gets hot here too. Usually in july/august it's over 100 the temps do not drop much at night and we have 100% humidity it's like living in a flippin sauna or arm pit... My husband is going to school there so I have not much of a choice =o)

How do you keep your animals comfortable in this heat? Our horse Lena loves to be hosed down. She LOVES water, even all over her face. She comes running to the hose when I'm spraying down the dry lots to keep the dust down. ME ME ME!!!

lucky horse!!! Here we just try to keep the chickens in water. They have good circulation but no run yet. They like to stand up on the window sills which are only covered with hardware cloth. It is pretty warm in there but its the coolest part of the property, on the north side in the shade.
