Idaho?

Hi, I'm new to the site. But, I'm in idaho. I'm new to the chicken raising. We got 15 chickens and still trying to find out make/female. We just built them a coop.... Seem happy, haven't lost any yet.... How is everyone??

He is gorgeous!

I have a pic, for Mandi--Mo5c--

This is my frizzle...from the same hatch as yours. Does it look more or less girlie than your Moms, can you tell? Hope they are both girls!

Here is my new doghouse coop. It works great! for my Houdans.

And the Houdans--My roo Dwight Schrute. His hairdo is always a hot mess

His Ladies--Dunder, Mifflin, and Pam

Those Houdan's are so cute Lisa. Yes my mom's frizzle looks just like that one but I can actually see the comb(not as many feathers on that part of her head), and she is totally girlie.

On another note my great nephew Ethan's roo "Cornflake" (the one he won't let me rehome) just started to try his crowing, and boy does he sound funny, it is so cute.

My dad said the pullets that I bought from D&B have started laying finally (well most of them anyways), but the eggs are small in size. Is this because they are new layers or is there maybe some bantam mixed in them? They are mainly sexlinks, a mistery pullet, and a couple others, I can't remember which breeds they are.

Thank you for the welcoming. I'll try to get better picks. Also, how old do these guys look? And do they look like they are roosters?? ;-)

[/IMG][/IMG]these are the chickens I have. Just wondering what kinds they are. Got a response on the black one. Trying to see what the brown ones and white ones are. They did tell me that the white ones would lay green/blue eggs... Thanks for your help guys.

my white ones, and this chicken is the most aggressive out of all of them. Picking on every other chick. Don't know why. They are all healthy. Kind? Age? Why's it aggressive?

April those are both looking boyish to me. The white one is an EE...the amount of red on the shoulders would also indicate male, the boys can get that rusty red on the shoulders but not so much the females. If they get it on the breast area and the shoulders and it is lighter orange it is ok...but dark red on shoulders only = boy. Don't know what the more brown one is the pic is not quite sharp enough to tell.

Mandi, glad the frizz still looks girlie! Did you ever find a home for the Wheaten marans Roo?

I will have Houdan chicks if you want one/some. Going to set eggs in a few weeks for one batch for fall then more in the Spring, if everybody makes it through winter. They are a really sweet breed, I really like them :) I wish I had more room, I would have a whole flock of these. We want to build a coop bigger than the doghouse coop in the Spring, then I have more room to grow out a few babies at a time and try to improve the breed closer to SOP over time.

Icyoldhen, the quail I got from your eggs? Wow. One hen lays the hugest double yolker every day. They all lay every day pretty much...another lays a big single, the other two lay normal size. Very awesome little layers! I have had so many people want chicks from them. Just wanted to let you know about the big eggs, they are great!

Thanks. I'll try to get Better pics. What is ee??

Easter Egger. ( A not-purebred Ameraucana basically) The hatcheries and feed stores sell them as 'Ameraucana" or Americana but they are not purebred, they are a hybrid. Yours sure looks like one but I am not 100 percent positive. The cheeks are not quite as poofy and the comb looks like a pea comb but it is still hard to tell from the pic. But the coloring sure looks right. I have had three that look just like that.

I just can't tell on that 2nd pic. I have not had any of that breed...could it be a Welsummer? Just guessing here, have not had them, just trying to remember what I have seen on here. Barnevelder? Trying to remember which ones have that dark brown back and lighter stomach with the eyeliner. Someone else will have to chime in to tell you for sure...but there are some ideas to check into. You could look at those two in the breed section and see...or post the pics on those forums maybe? The combs are not so red but they just look big in comparison to the sizes of those chicks. Guessing the age comparing them to the wire hole size--6 weeks maybe? Maybe a bit more. Hope that helps a little :) It is fun to try and figure it out with you. Do post if you get a definitive answer!
