Idaho?

since it is getting down in the low 20's and freezing everything, would you force chickens inside? My chickens sleep with my ducks... outside on a roost next to them. Last year when it got really cold I would nightly, place them one by one in their coop (with the ducks so thhey didn't freak out). Should I do it again... ?
The low 20's aren't bad but as winter digs in and the temps go close to zero your babies will run the risk of getting frozen feet especially when the wind picks up. I let my spare roosters and ducks stay outside 24/7 until the daytime temperatures don't get above freezing.

Oh, I found it, the Idaho page! Thanks Doorashens!

Morning all, We decided to proceed on a new project bird so will be letting letting go of our Silver pencilled Wyandotte bantam line. Not enough pen space for all... There are 3 chicks left 2 -8 days old that need to find someone to love on them. 2 look to be females. If you can't have the male, that's fine...They are free, just PM me if you want them.

Cool birds!!

Hayden Idaho here.... posting so that I can subscribe to the post. Does anyone know of any upcoming chicken swaps in the Panhandle area for 2014? I currently have a BSL, a RIR and an EE pullet. If the pullet lays a brown egg... I would like to add 2 EE pullets to my flock. Blue/green eggs would be a great addition to my egg basket. Thanks..... :)

congrats!!! Sermas are so dang cute. I have silkie eggs on the way that I am going to try and hatch out. I just think they are so adorable. I have and empty coop and need to fill it I thought.

Its been a sad week for me. I had to put my dog to sleep on Monday. He was only 6 years old. The vet suspected bone cancer which is common in the premature deaths in Rottweilers. He was such a good dog. I feels like I had to say goodbye to a son.
I am very sorry for the passing of your Rottie. I had one and he passed away when he was 10 years old. They are the smartest and most loyal dogs ever...

Good luck on the eggs Marcie. I don't think I will ever get to hatch any eggs, especially with losing the bantam rooster you gave me. Maybe I will just wait until One of them goes broody again and then find some eggs to hatch.:(
WELCOME!!  I am in SW Idaho.:frow

O... HEY i almost forgot to tell you guys - My son and i have 4 of our own Serama eggs in our DIY incubator!  Day 10 and all 4 are looking good!

How is everyone holding out in this aweful cold? Eeekk -6 right now. Having the power out for hours at -8 was totally suckish.
For me, the most annoying part of winter is the frozen water. Our "freezeless" hydrants FREEZE. I only have one that is reliable. Frozen bird waterers is a pain as well. Some of my birds have heated water but not all. So, winter is a lot of extra work. I brought my snowflake bobwhites into the house and my coturnix are now in the garage in my chick brooder totes. I have to make some more brooder totes before my early hatches! I have some juvenile chickens outside with a heat mat and a light. I wrapped my runs and growout pens in plastic. It actually gets kinda warm in the runs when the sun is out.
