Hi Cyndi!
I have been through there a few times. It is about 5 miles further than my turn off on 95. We turn on benewah creek road and drive 15 miles of dirt road to our place.

We go to St Maries every Wed, for bark and sawdust, at the lumber yard. We drove home on Benewah Road a couple of weeks ago, beautiful drive. This is why we moved to this area. We love it here. We are up against Moses Mtn, on the West side. We are neighbors. Do you have horses? do you ride? I would love to find a riding partner. Are you female? I dont think my DH would like it if I went riding into the sunset w/another man!! tee hee.

I also got these from Dunlap hatchery. They are all Black Australorps. I don't have a recent picture of my rooster. When I get a good picture I'll post it.

@Birdrain92 Great pictures, your hens are beautiful. What am I missing, alot of people have Australorps. I was given an Australorp Roo after the neighbors dogs killed my roo and 2 hens last yr. And now his offspring are all black. I personally want more color than black. and alot of people have the BCM.... ? are these birds a color gene carrier or what? What am I missing, What do I not know? educate me, please.

I don't know what BCM means. Usually with genes, darkest colors are dominant. Black will almost always show. Until white is introduced. White tends to be at least co dominant. Which means both white and another color will show. If you were to breed a Black Australorp to say a White Leghorn you'll probably get a White chicken that may possible have some black on them. In some species of animals red and black are co dominant as well.

I don't know what BCM means. Usually with genes, darkest colors are dominant. Black will almost always show. Until white is introduced. White tends to be at least co dominant. Which means both white and another color will show. If you were to breed a Black Australorp to say a White Leghorn you'll probably get a White chicken that may possible have some black on them. FBCM--French Black Copper Marans. I am not a fan of the Aussies as much because of the plain tan egg, but LOVE the Marans for the chocolate colored eggs. (eggs on far left in picture)
The Marans have a nice copper necklace and part of the head, so they still are kinda cool looking---I raise mostly the blue so it adds a little more color too.

Thank you! Those look cool. The only Marans that I can find with ease is the Cuckoo Marans from Dunlap Hatchery. BA are my favorite. They are hardy, very calm and friendly, amazing egg layers, lay for a long time, and can make great meat birds too. I use my hens for eggs. Any roosters I hatch out become broilers.

They are hard to find for sure, they are mostly privately bred--the ones I tried from a hatchery laid really light eggs and had very little copper

Australorps do have really beautiful black eyes and I agree on the calm, docile nature.

Hopefully this spring I will be able to hatch out some White peachicks and sell them. It mainly depends on my White peacock and how many eggs my hens will lay.
