I get to babysit my neighbors house this week, she has 5 chickens. We went over to get eggs, GOOD SAKES her 2 eggs we got are way bigger than mine. Wonder what she is feeding those guys! I can fit either egg all the way in the carton. One of hers is an Australorp, .....wheels turning, squeeeeeekk......... I should play a joke on her and trade mine with hers and see what she says about the tiny eggs, that would be pretty funny

They look identical, she would never know haha

That would be hilarious! I think you should do it!

The olive eggers with straight combs usually lay brown eggs, but not always. If they do lay olive, it's typically darker than a pea comb olive egger.

Michelle, remember when I came over I had you look at those two marans babies, looked like one of each gender......? you were right about them feathering out backwards. The feathered out one with the tail that was so tiny turned out a boy and the girl turned out to be the one with no tail, bigger as a baby....so funny the little one started growing and growing and is now bigger with nice red wattles coming in, comb turning red, and that face has the shape you were talking about......The big one has not grown much, still feathering in, but has the girl face and no red at all.....i can really tell today who is who. Girl you have this stuff down. I would never have guessed that they would turn out this way, I was really sure they were opposites of what they are now. haha ! Glad I kept them for awhile for sure.

The boys head seems smaller, rounder and more petite, and the girls do have that hawk look more long nose....head seems more elongated/almond shaped. The differences are subtle but you can see it.....I noticed the difference in the boy/girl pair I picked up and sure enough my two are getting the same look.

Oh man I do not think I can wait for the eggs from these. The anticipation is KILLING me. Ha ha!

Yeah, she has a straight comb and very dark olive egg, very interesting... She has the coloring of an Ameracauna, more than a Marans, does that mean that the rooster was Ameracauna and the hen was Marans?? Can you tell that by how they look??

I was gone all weekend camping in the nutty weather. After everyone being horribly grumpy, the rain, two near death experiances by humans, one of which as ME! since the brakes on my husband's off road truck decided to go out, (thanks everything he's an awsome driver and has very quick reflexes!) and then my friends dog getting hurt jumping out of the back of his truck while it was moving after she slipped her leash, she was tied down, and having to put her down from the injuries, I swear I will NEVER leaving to go camping on Friday the 13th again. At least there were no coop disasters, I had no choice but to leave the coop door open all weekend, I could't find a sitter. It was like being in one of the Final Destination movies, if it could go wrong it did. So it was nice to come home and see eveyone happily roosting and hug my llama this morning.

There. I have vented and shall move on to happy day.

So sorry Susan!! Sheesh, at least you made it ouf of there without a trip to the hospital... I'm a nurse and we TOTALLY are superstitious of Friday the 13th, full moons, etc...

That would be hilarious! I think you should do it!

DITTO!!

Yes, marans don't follow feather rules! The head shape gives them away fairly early, though. :)

Also interesting... do you teach classes Michellle?? I would be there!!
