Idaho?

Pics
Sorry to hear that Becca! Especially since you can't tell for sure what happened to her... I'll do crossies for you that she reappears tonite, she isn't broody somewhere is she?

So I had to go spray down the chickens, holy moly it is hot today.. they're all under the tarp I have up for shade buried in the dirt and still panting... they don't like being sprayed (with a light spray) but they are so much happier afterwards!!

Was wanting to go the the Bonneville County Fair and see the poultry, but I missed it yesterday, I guess, sheesh, missed the Bingham county one, too by one day... bummer, will just have to wait now for the State Fair, I guess! Do you guys know anyone with birds in the state fair, or anyone who shows their birds??

Not meaning to pry, Becca, but I was looking at your profile and noticed your pics of bird poop, lol... was one of your girls sick, and what did she have and is she better?? (hopefully, since the pics are dated Feb)

Okay Michelle, another question for you...

I have a blue orp from Azriel that I got at the chickenstock in May... I think she is a really pretty bird, she's getting really big and fluffy, but she has some gold looking leakage on her neck, just a small spot, not all over her whole neck... How does that happen?? Because aren't they bred by crossing black and splash orpingtons??

I just noticed your bird poop pictures question, sorry I missed that before! Yes I had a hen that I took in last Novemeber who was ill. Some of those pictures are not of bird poop, but I can't remember the term right now. She had some type of ovary problems and she did not make it. I tried my hardest but not even surgery could fix her, I had to put her down at the end of April when she took a turn for the worst. I became really attached to her while caring for her in the house for several months and it was the hardest thing I ever to do, I balled my eyes out!

Huckleberry season is over so, back to having fun on BYC. Very happy to see there are other people from Idaho hit by the chicken bug! Anyone out in the Middleton/Star area?

What do you mean huckleberry season is over, they usually go though August! I am planning a trip on the 17th up to the McCall area to pick some as we have in previous years about this time of year. Please don't tell me the season is really over!

Around Payette lake they were dried up. We went up higher, hoping elevation would help. There were some around Upper Payette Lake and 6-7 miles up Lick Creek road past Little Payette Lake. The extended heat this year is hitting the berry patches, BOO!
In June we went up towards Yellow Pine (sesech campground) found loads. Yum!! Once again Huckleberry Jam for X-mas presents :)

What?It is?? I figured it would be early, but, yikes!!! Where is Middleton/Star??
They are there, but not for much longer... Wow chicken and huckleberry fans in one place, how lucky to find such a great forum!!

Lansing Lane, is where we are at. Halfway between Middleton and Star. 20 Min West of Eagle on Highway 44.

They are beautiful! I love the Wyandottes! I have 4 SLW but they aren't as friendly as my chickens we bought and raised this year. Not having a rooster I found helps with their friendliness, but they would never let me touch them or pick them up or catch them. If I want to look them over I have to wait until they are in the coop for the night. Do you find yours are pretty friendly? I would love to get more Wyandottes down the road if they are. Also mine do not look as nice and fluffy as yours. My girls are dirty from all the dust bathing they do!

Thanks, yes lots of fluff going on around here between the orps and wyandottes. The poor rhodies look like sticks comparatively.

Hmm maybe your Wyandotte girls are down on the pecking order. I find it hard to catch the ones that are low man. These are friendly and pretty easy going. In your business for sure if you have a handful of scratch or dirt even for that matter. haha we have Silver Lace from 2 different breeders. Both seem to be friendly. I don't know about catching them out in the open though, never tried. They come up to me, curious as to what the giant ( or feed fountain) is doing...

Wow, chicken, those huckleberries look YUMMY!!! I was asking at the market today, and they said the huckleberry season wasn't as good this year, especially at the lower spots, I'm scared of bears, so we probably won't go hunting this year, if there aren't many lower=)

And what pretty birds!! I love the wyandottes, too, such pretty feathers and fluffy birds... someday I'll have some of those, too (wink, wink) Pics of mine are in my siggy... I should probably take some more pics again...

Becca, so sorry you can't find that bird, maybe it was the hawks... darn things, sheesh!!

Michelle, do you lose any of the cockerels you let out to free-range during the summer to hawks or anything??

P.S, would love to see pics of your RIR's chicken=)
