Apron the run - that helps deter digging predators. That means to run hardware cloth (or a similar, small opening wire) around the outside of the run, then bend it 90 degrees outward to 18 - 24" and secure to the ground. Or you can dig a trench and run the hardware cloth straight down all the way around the run but that requires more labor and might not be possible depending on your soil.

Yes..and the coop if necessary.

Here's couple of good examples, tho I'd not recommend 1/2" HC...go with 14ga 1x2 or 1x1, will hold up much longer and is easier to lay flat.
