Ideal hatchery = BEST hatchery in the world!!!!!!

We just got our chicks from Ideal, they're only 2 1/2 hours away from us though so it was a short transit for the little guys. They do seem to have good chicks thoug!

I know I will use Ideal Poultry again. I don't intend to show any of my birds, so I'm quite happy with those I got from Ideal (not many, it was a trial order... I'd been put off by a lot of negative comments about hatcheries).

I even ordered a Pair of Toulouse geese; they arrived great! However, almost a week and a half later the gander gosling died. I tried to order another to replace him, but I'd gotten the last hatch of the year. Ideal refunded the cost of the one gosling, which surprised me, as he died so much later...

Customer Service is wonderful and I am happy with the Buckeyes and the goose, so I will be using Ideal again. No doubt about it.

(My Pet Chicken, or MPC, while not its own hatchery - a drop shipper - is also another source I will utilize. I'm very happy with the chicks I ordered from MPC, too.)

I also had mine sent to Maine, and have been very happy with my girls. They were less than half the price of my pet chicken, and I got quite the variety. Will order from them again.

Remember one thing, when you buy the chickens grown or or pullet age, you are also buying any bad habits of fears the chickens have picked up. The ones I just bought at 16 to 18 weeks old are not people friendly. They were free ranged and contact with humans was extremely limited. The BOs or just calm anyway, but the rest act like they waiting for me to "getum'. I know over time they will get better but I know how some of you like to pet and hug your chickens. The Golden Laced Wyandotte pullet is trusting also but not as much so as the BOs. The GLW rooster is even calm. When I picked him up to put im in the pen he didn't squawk at all. But he's all boy to the hens. Still none of them come up to me.

I read this entire thread and didn't see one chick pic...

growing . There is alot of hatchery vs breeder but for most of us backyarders they serve a valuable purpose. I am looking for eggs & meat they will do that, but I also chose breeds that will be self sustaining as well to suit my needs. This is my 1st year doing chickens after many years away so getting established has been a journey.
