I just ordered my new babies from Ideal poultry 51 to be exact! 45 Silkies and 6 Ducklings! Can anyone tell me what to expect? This is my first time ordering chicks! I would love if you post pics of silkies and ducks from IDEAL ONLY please! With some tips and tricks for when they arrive! Thanks so much for the help!!!!!

IDEAL is the only hatchery I use and I'm always very happy with their service! When my chicks arrive I always open my box first and look over the chicks making sure that they are alive and healthy! If any have passed away during shipment just contact the hatchery and they will refund your money for those that did not make it! Then the next thing I do is give them water with the sav-a-chick electrolytes and sav-a-chick probiotics in it and feed. Young chicks are susceptible to drowning in their waters so I always put some rocks or marbles in the waterer, this will keep that from happening. Sometimes you kinda have to show them how to eat so what I do is put a little food on the floor of the brooder and peck it with my finger and this gets them interested and they will start eating pretty quick! The ducks will be quite messy as they love to play in water so when i order ducks i usually have a separate brood box and a separate light for them and line it with a sheet if plastic under the bedding material because they will make a HUGE mess!! The main thing I would recommend is having two brooders for the silkies and ducklings--if you don't already. The ducklings will grow fast and be super messy, and can easily kill off the silkies by trampling or cold from getting wet.
