Ideal started taking their 2010 chick orders.....

Won't be ordering this year, to my knowledge (DH might say otherwise, come summer) lol! <am looking at the amiler right now,and drooling>
We are needing to expand the coop for the bachelors that were warmers for a replacement shipment last year for a roo and pullet Americauna (both ended up being male, so it was a wasted shipment), and would need to expand even more for more girls. Either or, I know I am wanting a Mayan, and perhaps a few other jumbo layers, and a goose. MY main concern would be flock integration once the newbies were big enough for the coop.

I am going to wait and see how egg orders and the garden go, and if I start having a backlog then will do what I can to make room.
Anyone in my area thinking of waiting until summer? We might be able to combine an order........
Just a thought.

I ordered from Ideal last year and was more than pleased. I have gone from a "few chickens for eggs" to major "chicken addiction." To feed my addiction, I ordered the following

*5 buff silkies
*5 mille fleur d'uccles
*4 welsummers
*4 speckled sussex
*4 black sex-link
*4 white rocks

Ship date 3/10!!!

I managed to convince hubs to let me have ducks this year! Bwahahaha.

So, my order for this spring was:

2 Cayuga duck pullets
4 Ideal variety leghorn pullets
2 Cream Brabanter pullets
2 Madagascar games pullets

Now, the guessing game of how many become unexpected roos!

How did you manage to snag the speckled sussex? Their website says they are sold out until April. I'll be ordering some, since I don't want shipment until May.

I seriously re-arranged my chick order list. I'll be getting 3 easter eggers, 3 dorkings, 3 naked necks (turkens) and 3 speckled sussex.

I ordered on Saturday, and have 5 speckled sussex coming 2/17/10. I hope they are able to complete the order as they were the ones I am most excited about getting!

Just want to give you an insight into how we figure our hatch numbers. At this point the young hens are not even laying yet but we have to have some numbers to 'guess' how many chicks we can sell each week. We take our formula and get a number that is a shot in the dark. Once we have sold that number we will say that an item is sold out till May. However, once the chicks begin to lay and we can get a more accurate projection we will be able to pull names off the waiting list and book your order. Therefore, please put your name on our waiting list for any breed that you would like to order that is currently saying 'sold out'.

Thanks

Teri
