I ordered some chicks from Ideal and I was wondering on average how many and what kind of "packing peanuts" are used?

I got 7 RIRs as packing peanuts. i got 3 pullets and 4 cockerals, i think i got out on top with that one...

I got 15 RIR roos with my order from February

they use straw + a few extra cockerals which i dont get why they use cockerals are they warmer then pullets somehow?

They use boys because they're the ones no one else wants!! I got australop roos with my order.

Nope, not warmer. But, rather than put pullets in that they can sell they put cockerals in that most everybody doesn't want (or at least want to pay for). They get rid of the cockerals but provide some warmth in the shipping box....and the buyer has to deal with the destiny of the packing peanuts.

Keep in mind that you may or may not get any extras or freebies this time of year since the weather has warmed up and it is peak chick season.

I have a order coming in the 26th of this month. 107 chicks I think and they told me no peanuts with them. But 10 poults and they will come with 10 peanuts.
But last year I got 10 peanuts with an order of turkeys and they were plymouth rocks 4 roos 6 hens.
