Ideas for disguising a coop for Hens on the Sly?

Good that there are people out there doing this despite ridiculous laws and rules. You have the right to produce food. Anyone who tells you that you don't have this right is a liar and a tyrant. It makes sense to keep your neighbors happy, but healthy people are able to make compromises. And it makes sense to see to it that you chickens are happy and well cared for too, of course!
Thumbs up to the BYCers, homesteaders, DIYers, hobby gardeners and generally self reliant folks of this world! You make a big difference.

Well if you cant get chickens and are intrested in meat and eggs I say get a couple of wire cages and raise coturnix quail in your basement or even outside.For me there pretty quiet and even if they do get loud they sound kind of like wild birds.If you want and affectionate pet get some pigeons,you raise them to be as nice as chickens and there great for meat.

If you want a stealth chicken breed, in a neighborhood that is really hostile to chickens and *knows* you wanted to get some, I would suggest... quail. In a screen porch or in a shed (it can have a large screen window or whatever, just not facing the neighbors). They will give you eggs AND (if you want) meat.

The problem with getting chickens when you've already been flatly turned down for them is that people WILL hear the chicken noises and you will then have to get rid of them and be in general hot water.

Sorry, but seriously, look into coturnix quail...

I will recommend that you buy Black Austrolorpes. They are extremely quiet. Shy adn very sweet-natured. You will love them.

Find a childs playhouse and convert it. Sometimes they are free for hauling away when people are relocating or are forced to move out as is common these days. Locate it so that it cannot be seen easily from the street. Landscaping or privacy fencing will both work.
