These are pretty thin and I would be nervous they might peck at them and break them and then try to eat them. The ones hatcheries use are pretty thick.

My issue with the bands that are sized is figuring out size and needing multiple sizes to get them through chick-hood. I want to say the ones hatcheries use are good from day 1 up to a week so those might be a good option but then you’d also need different colors. The pack of zip ties is like $10 so to me it’s a better investment as they can be used for other things if you need to later.

I could maybe do the food coloring, but I am getting them from a local feed store and not a hatchery.

It doesn't matter if you are hatching them in an incubator. You can use the food coloring just like you would use a band.
