I picked up a Sultan along with a Polish girl a few weeks ago. Now they are about 8 weeks old. Had never heard of the Sultan before. Still not sure if its a girl or a boy... what are the defining characteristics (minus laying an egg!)?

The defining characteristics that I look for in mine are:
A more fuller peup sound
Shiny saddle feathers
Coloring difference (the roosters of some varieties will not be the same color as the females and males are also generally less camouflaged than females in color)
Some people say length of tail
Comb size and shape
Characteristics such as attitude, stance, and its reaction to suspicious noises and objects. A young roo will actually make a warning sound if an object is thrown over the run or coop

TRYING AGAIN!
<LoL>
With Silkies...
Did I get two pullets this time?

Please let me know what you think - they are 8-10 weeks old.
THANK you! :O)

Sorry they're super dirty - I tried to put them in with my Wyandotte, Lacewing, and Americauna, but they were chased out of the coop. If they're both girls I'm going to build them their own coop; if one's a roo, then I'm going to have to rehome them as a pair and try again next year. :(
